These small globular pendants were popular among common women in ancient Rome, sometimes described as prostitute’s pendants, a view that is widely published on the internet. This example is large for these, 21.4mm, 1/2” diameter of fruit form with the lower half skillfully modeled in a deeply ribbed surface. It has been professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold surface restored. It is suspended on an 18” gilt Sterling silver neck chain for modern wear and is gift boxed with a certificate of authenticity.
