EUROPEAN CHILD'S RING, SIZE 3 1/2

$135.00 Sale

11th-12th century. Collected in the Holy Land dating it to pre-1187. Size 3 1/2. Narrow band flared at the shoulder. Rounded rectangular bezel probably defaced by the Saracens leaving a smooth polished surface. Deep glossy patina is typical of desert burial. Children accompanied the Crusaders as attendants and animal keepers. The concept of a Children's Crusade (in 1212) is now largely rejected by scholars.
