FINE BYZANTINE/ROMAN CROSS, 5TH-10TH CENTURY AD

$425.00 Sale
After the fall of Rome when Christianity spread through the eastern remnants of the Roman Empire. Silvered bronze, just over 1” height plus the loop. Comprised of four spatulate members, symmetrically stemming from a central nub. Each with a tear shaper raised center, double borders and quartered nub terminals. The tear shapes and the central nub together undoubtedly refer to the five wounds of Christ while the arrangement from the central hub may be a reference to the pagan Wheel of Fortune. Well detailed and especially intricate for these. Professionally refurbished with the pure silver overlay restored and mounted on an 18” sterling silver neck chain for modern wear. Gift boxed with a certificate of authenticity.
