Gilt bronze, large size 11 ¼ with 2.8mm round section band flaring to the shoulders. The bezel is in three ranks with large roped tapered bands flanking a very high roped medial ridge. The roping on each evolved from chevrons in the middle and twisting in opposite directions. The roped or helix form was a favorite Viking decorative motif, probably with supernatural connotations. Surface textured from burial. Professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold surface restored. Gift boxed with certificate of authenticity. Singularly massive and impressive example.
