FINE VIKING WARRIOR’S RING 850-1050 AD, SIZE 10 1/2

$2300.00 Sale

So called shield ring because of its large shield shaped bezel which is decorated in high relief with broad stippled boarders enclosing a medial ridge flanked by clusters of nubs arranged asymmetrically. The purpose of the arrangement is unknown but undoubtedly spiritual. The band is formed as two addorsed prongs, a form specific to Vikings and believed so done as a complete circle was an allusion to Jormungandr, a monstrous serpent, encircling the world gripping its tail in its mouth. Professionally refurbished gilt bronze with the 24karat gold surface restored. Gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
