13th-15th century AD. Silvered bronze, size 3 ¼ with ridged face band, 2.5mm at the bottom flaring to the shoulders. These evidently served as signet rings for owners accomplished enough to wear jewelry but illiterate. Illiteracy or limited literacy was common and probably the norm in most cultures at the time. The signet served as a man’s seal as binding as a signature. Professionally refurbished with the pure silver overlay restored for contemporary wear. Gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
