8th-12th centuries. Just over 1” (1.05”) in height. Broad beams, the cross beam centered. Each with bifurcated terminals as adopted by the Knights Hospitaller as the Maltese Cross. The front incised with a stick cross and the back plain. Made by the open face mold technique. Carried by European Pilgrims traveling to the Holy Land to visit the land where Christ lived and died. Provincial example with quaint workmanship and original tool marks preserved. Professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold overlay restored, on an 18” gilt sterling silver neck chain for contemporary wear. Gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
