Gilt bronze, just under 7/8” (0.85”) diameter modeled in high relief as concentric circles with a red “stone” in the center. The edges rolled back forming a hollow back. Made by the open mold process. The subject of these amulets has been argued. It may be Sol Invictus, the unconquered sun, the worship of which corresponds to these amulets. It is also suggested that they are “evil eye” amulets and possibly both. This example is restored with the 24karat gold surface and “stone” restored for modern wear it is mounted on an 18” gilt silver neck chain. It is gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
