Original belt mount from a Roman legionary’s sword belt C.300-400AD. See Forum Ancient Coins for virtually identical examples and detailed information. While decorative, these mounts were capable of protectively absorbing the impact of a sword blow. Thus, they are in fact, a form of Roman armor. This example is formed as a circle with flared extensions top and bottom. It is bronze, skillfully made and detailed, about 5/8” (0.58”) height with the 24karat gold surface restored and mounted on an 18” gilt silver neck chain for modern wear. Gift boxed with certificate of authenticity. Actual 1600 year old part of a Roman soldier’s sword belt!
