The traditional Viking heart amulet interpreted by Viking converts to Christianity. The heart stood for bravery, fortitude, loyalty, integrity, all attributes of the Viking warrior. It is abundantly referenced in Viking literature. Upon conversion to Christianity in the 12th century, many old symbols were used, with and without their previous spiritual significance. This heart amulet retains its earlier form with the field decorated with a pair of cabled curves in place of the usual trefoil.
