VIKING LUNAR PENDANT NECKLACE, 10th-11th CENTURY AD

$340.00 Sale

10th- 11th century. Just under 3/4” (0.72”) width, crescent form with raised edges and baluster terminals representing Sol the sun and Mani the moon. The shoulders with triple pellet triangles, a popular Viking motif, probably with spiritual significance. As expert navigators, celestial bodies provided guidance and took on supernatural identities. This amulet was intended to invoke the help of and praise the glory of the solar system, represented by its two most prominent and influential bodies. Professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold overlay restored. A small but finely made example in exceptional preservation.
