VIKING LUNAR PENDANT NECKLACE

10^th- 11th century. Flat plate, about7/8” width of broad crescent form with roped tubular suspension loop. Inner border of the hound’s tooth pattern surrounds the flat field. Possibly originally with further Pagan symbols in the field, removed upon conversion to Christianity in the second half of the 11^th century. Retaining Pagan beliefs and symbols after conversion was common and some in the form of superstitions, are still with us today. Professionally refurbished with the silver overlay restored, on a modern Sterling silver 18" neck chain. Jewelry gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
