VIKING PROTECTIVE BROOCH, 850-1050 AD

$155.00 Sale
Silvered bronze, worn in numbers on the surface of the jerkin, provided a measure of protection against sword cuts and was a form of armor. See current Public Television programming for documentation of these in action. As protectors, they also held spiritual significance for the warrior. Circular, just under 7/8” (0.85”) diameter with scalloped or roped motif to the ring. The surface is lightly textured and worn from burial. Professionally refurbished with the silver overlay restored, on an 18” Sterling silver neck chain for contemporary wear. Jewelry gift boxed with a certificate of authenticity. Fine proud form.
