ANCIENT VIKING HEART PENDANT NECKLACE, C.850-1050 AD
Iconic broad heart form with overall trefoil motif comprising addorsed top members formed as tapered scrolling members. The bottom as a stylized diamond and all three with central incised tear forms.. Foliate designs were favored by Vikings and incorporated into about half of heart pendants. Over 7/8" width. The surface textured from burial. The heart stood for bravery, fortitude, loyalty, integrity, all attributes of the Viking warrior. It is abundantly referenced in Viking literature. Professionally refurbished with the silver overlay restored on a Sterling silver neck chain for contemporary wear. Jewelry gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
