FINE VIKING HEART PENDANT C.900-1050 AD
Broad elegant form, just under 7/8" width with broad raised border, fully developed cusp and graceful central trefoil. Made by the open face mold method with high relief decoration. The form of the heart is stylized with the top cusp. Both forms are used profusely in Nordic literature. The heart stood for bravery, fortitude, loyalty, integrity, all attributes of the Viking warrior. It is abundantly referenced in Viking literature. Particular deep relief modeling well preserved. Light surface texture from burial. Professionally refurbished with the silver surface restored on a modern Sterling silver neck chain for modern wear.
