Late Roman/Byzantine period, 5th-8th century AD. Circular, just over 3/4" diameter, with six radial spokes extending to a crenulated edge and raised hollow center hub. A common form of the Rota Fortuna ADapted here by incorporating it into a fashionable, less mystical form, probably as a concession to Christianity, with which this pagan symbol is blended. Professionally refurbished with the silver overlay restored, on a Sterling silver neck chain for contemporary wear. Jewelry gift boxed with a certificate of authenticity.
