Fine Roman Ring C.2nd-mid 4th C.AD, Size 8 1/2
Size 8 1/2, gilt bronze with 3.4mm ridged face band flaring to the shoulders. Oval bezel with flat face inscribed with abstracted hippocampus, the mythological sea monster with the fore part of a horse and rear half of elongated aquatic form. See Ancient Rings p.80 for two ADditional examples. Possibly a signet ring. Crisp preservation with light surface texture from burial.
