FINE VIKING HEART PENDANT, 11TH CENTURY AD
Just over 1/2" (0.55") width. Fully developed form with somewhat abstracted motifs of a diamond like center and triangles below the middle. Dating to the period of conversion to Christianity, these represent concession while retaining the fundamental pagan mythology. The heart stood for bravery, fortitude, loyalty, integrity, all attributes of the Viking warrior. It is abundantly referenced in Viking literature. Professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold overlay restored for contemporary wear on a gilt Sterling silver neck chain. Jewelry gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
