FINE VIKING HEART PENDANT C.900-1050 AD
Just under 3/4” height, with broad border and central trefoil motif. The foliate trefoil was a very popular motif for Viking hearts. The form of the heart is natural as in the body rather than stylized with the top cusp. Both forms are used profusely in Nordic literature. The heart stood for bravery, fortitude, loyalty, integrity, all attributes of the Viking warrior. It is abundantly referenced in Viking literature. Professionally refurbished with the gold restored for contemporary wear.
