ROMAN GILT RING C.3RD-7TH CENTURY, SIZE 2 3/4
Late Empire to the Early medieval period, the period of the growth of Christianity. Size 2 & 3/4 for the small finger. 2.8mm band. Raised stepped oval bezel with remnants of hatched bands. Intricately and elaborately engraved. Undoubtedly with significance, probably supernatural, at the time now lost. The fall of the Roman Empire and the onset of the "Dark Ages" brought a mixture of old Roman mythology mixed with Christianity. Many areas were so remote that legends and even specific words were restricted to those areas only. Thus the meaning of these graphics may have been limited to fewer than a hundred people originally, and less later. Textured from burial. Professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold surface restored. Gift boxed with a certificate of authenticity.
