EUROPEAN SAILOR’S SWEETHEART RING, 18TH CENTURY, SIZE 11
See Ancient Rings, Pollio, page 140 for two related examples. This one is size 11, gilt bronze with 3.0mm band divided at the shoulders. The raised edge oval bezel bears a central cross flanked by a heart and anchor. In all three examples, the heart is flaming at the top which identifies it as the Sacred Heart, and specific to Catholicism. As well, the anchor is specific to sailing and thus the ring of a Catholic sailor either worn or given to his Sweetheart. Professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold overlay restored and jewelry gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
