ANCIENT ROMAN HORSESHOE 4rd-5th CENTURY AD
Forged iron 4 ¾” greatest dimension. 3/3 nail holes as survived through the early Medieval period. The plate shaped to the face of the horse’s hoof. Excellent preservation. These were worn by chariot horses and have been recovered at known battle sites. There is some disagreement about the invention of the horseshoe with a minority opining that it was the Druids, however, historians largely agree that it was the Romans. One Plexiglas display easel. Great holiday gift for a horse lover.
