ANCIENT VIKING GARMENT BROOCH
Items #492-#500 are Viking garment brooches C.866-1067 AD. All are bronze and attached by integral pierced posts on the back which penetrated the thick fabric or leather and were secured with pins. They served as ornaments as well as providing a measure of protection from a sword or axe blow. They are true Viking jewelry of which any is very rare. Probably and elongated version of #492 form. 1 1/16" height. Light surface texture and both post tips worn through.
