BYZANTINE PILGRIM'S CROSS
5th-8th century. Bronze, 7/8" height, originally plated. Equilateral rectangular beams block reinforced at the junction. Beam ends with incised darts. The back hollowed for inclusion of a sacred relic, the hair of a saint, splinter of the cross or similar. Worn from its time of use, probably from handling in prayer. Resilvered with modern silver neck chain.
