EARLY CHRISTIAN RING, 7th-10th CENTURY
Gilt bronze. Size 8 (18.8mm). Rounded band flared to the shoulders. Circular bezel cut with a hexagon surrounding two hatched bands. The significance now lost, however, such symbolism had religious context, often related to local saints. Wearing such a ring or cross was a declaration of Christian belief at a time when the unconverted were subject to death. Professionally refurbished with the gold overlay restored.
