Egyptian Grand Tour Amulet, 17th-18th Century
Faience, slightly over 2” height modeled as a standing pharaoh in desert hood. Particularly crisply detailed for these. These were made in Egypt for sale to primarily English youths who, upon achieving the age of 21, would take a once in a lifetime tour of the ancient monuments and sites to complete their educational experience. They were sold as genuine, as were reproductions of ancient pottery and other artifacts. Mounted for modern wear with Sterling silver neck chain. Genuine antique replicating the 3000 year old original.
