Small child size 1 3/4. Gilt bronze with narrow band, 2.6mm, flared at the shoulders. Raised transverse lenticular bezel. See Ancient Rings, Pollio, p.126. Professionally refurbished with the gold overlay restored. From the burial of an infant, probably a plague victim. In England, graves which at the time were largely in churchyards were routinely dug up and the bones of the deceased removed to sanctuaries to make room for more recent burials. Today, English law requires that the deceased be buried for 75 years before they may be removed from the grave!
