EUROPEAN PILGRIM'S RING 8th-9th CENTURY SIZE 8 ½
Gilt bronze, size 8 1/2. Broad, 4.5mm rounded face band with the Roman lug at the bottom flaring to the shoulders. Large pointed oval bezel impressed with 22 dots within a circle motifs. On earlier rings, those are found in groups of five representing the five wounds of Christ. By this time, they lost their literal meaning and were applied as sacred decoration in the old fashion. Dating to the early period of Islam, when Christians were allowed generally unobstructed access to the Holy Land, and predating the Crusades. Professionally refurbished with the gold overlay restored. Gift boxed with certification of authenticity.
