FINE VIKING HEART NECKLACE PENDANT C.10TH-11TH CENTURY AD
Boldly modeled example just under 1” width of fully developed heart form with cusped top formed by addorsed scrolls and trefoil bottom. The helix or spiral was a favorite Viking form used in decorating everything from weapons to jewelry. Made by the open face mold technique. Surface textured from burial. For Vikings, the heart stood for bravery, fortitude, loyalty, integrity, all attributes of the warrior. It is said that Hrungnir, with whom Thor dueled (assisted by a sorceress), had a heart of stone. Professionally refurbished with the silver overlay restored on a Sterling silver neck chain for modern wear. Gift boxed with a certificate of authenticity.
