FINE VIKING HEART PENDANT NECKLACE 850-950 AD
Just under 7/8" width, made by the open face mold method. Large heart form with nubbed quarter points at the bottom and of the slightly rounded section. The face hand incised with addorsed foliate sprigs. The form of the heart is stylized with the top cusp absent. Both forms are used profusely in Nordic literature. The heart stood for bravery, fortitude, loyalty, integrity, all attributes of the Viking warrior. It is abundantly referenced in Viking literature. Light surface texture from burial. Professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold surface restored, on a gilt neck chain for modern wear. Gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
