FINE VIKING HEART PENDANT PENDANT, C.10TH-11TH CENTURY AD
18.2mm, 0.72" total height. Elegant form with a rudimentary cusp to the top and pointed bottom. Broad rounded edge and high relief, central trefoil with a heart border. A heart in a heart! Made by the open-face mold technique. The form of the heart is natural as in the body rather than stylized with the top cusp. Both forms are used profusely in Nordic literature. The heart stood for bravery, fortitude, loyalty, and integrity, all attributes of the Viking warrior. It is abundantly referenced in Viking literature. Surface lightly textured from burial and professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold restored, on an 18” modern gilt neck chain for contemporary wear. Jewelry gift boxed with a certificate of authenticity.
