FINE VIKING VOTIVE AXE NECKLACE, 850-1050 AD
Silvered bronze axe, 1 7/8” height, of iconic Viking battle axe form with faceted socket flared front and back for stability on the haft. Bearded bit decorated wit concentric circle motifs. The transition with concentric circles flanked by transverse grooves. These votive axes are found in the Baltic hinterlands and were used sacrificially, probably at funerals of warriors. This example has been professionally refurbished with the silver surface restored. It is suspended from a heavy, 5.7mm Sterling silver neck chain for modern wear. It is gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
