ITALIAN WOMAN'S PENDANT NECKLACE C.1250-1450
Silvered bronze, about 7/8" total height. Formed as four domed circles. This form is thought to derive from the Medici family coat of arms. The original symbol for pawnbrokers was three flat circles from the Medici arms as the Medici family controlled the economy in Florence. The circles were later changed to balls for visual enhancement and hung outside the shops as trade signs. As used here, the symbol probably simply refers to Florence. Professionally refurbished with the silver surface restored and suspended from a modern Sterling silver neck chain. Jewelry gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
