LARGE EARLY CHRISTIAN PILGRIM'S RING 7th-10th CENTURY
Gold over bronze. Narrow band very slightly flared to circular bezel with cross shaped flower motif. Well preserved. While Pilgrims were readily identifiable, they were increasingly less welcome after the introduction of Islam in the 7th century which ultimately contributed to the Crusades. The motif on this ring is likely a dedication to the cross and the sacrifice it represented, clear to the wearer but obscured to non-Christians. Size 9. Professionally refurbished with the gold overlay restored for contemporary wear. Gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
