LATE ROMAN/MEDIEVAL RING 7th-10th CENTURY AD SIZE 4 ½
Gilt bronze, size 4 ½ with squared oval bezel incised with a diamond within a diamond. Rounded face band expanding to flared shoulders below the bezel. A woman’s ring for the small finger dating to the period of artistic reversal known as the Dark Ages, after the fall of Rome. It is the period of the spread of Christianity and pilgrimages to the Holy Land before the Crusades. This example is surface textured from burial with the gold surface restored.
