7th-10th centuries. Carried by European Pilgrims traveling to the Holy Land to visit the land where Christ lived and died. 1 5/8” height. The cross beam above center and the beam terminals ”crutched” as with the Jerusalem cross. Classic Gothic two dimensional relief Corpus Christi. The back hollowed for a sacred relic perhaps the hair of a saint, a splinter of the cross, etc. Professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold surface restored, on a a gilt Sterling silver neck chain for modern wear.
