MEDIEVAL FERTILITY BRACELET 14TH-15TH CENTURY
Macedonia, North of Greece. Bronze, 1 ½” inside. Roped medial flanked by two nubs representing breasts. The ends with cabled decoration and expanded rounded terminals. Given by mothers on the occasion of their daughter’s wedding and worn until the first child is borne. The small size of this example may be explained by the young age at which girls were married and perhaps, the smaller stature of girls of that period.
