Gilt bronze, just under 1 5/8” height. Symmetrical with centered cross beam. The beam terminals as large circles within trefoils, with further circle to the center, representing the five wounds of Christ. That motif is particularly early generally considered to be pre-Islam. Here, it is a resurrection of that earlier form, possibly a response to the influence and pressure of Islam. Professionally refurbished with the gold overlay restored. Some original enamel remaining in the cross beams and terminals. Gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
