OTTOMAN WARRIOR'S SIGNET RING, 17TH CENTURY, SIZE 8
Silvered bronze, size 8, made by the lost wax process. Low relief foliate overlay rising to a high oval bezel mounted with an oval red jasper cabochon wheel cut with a horse head and a cipher. Well worn but considerable remnants of the silver overlay in protected places. The personal seal of an Ottoman warrior over three centuries old and quite possibly gathered at the failed Siege of Vienna in 1683 where a vast amount of booty was collected from fleeing Ottoman troops under Grand Vizier Merzifonlu Kara Mustafa Pasha who was executed for his failure.
