Regular price $175.00 Sale

Addorsed cone form with ball terminal. Integral spiral support and suspension eye. A similar example with spiral support was discovered at the Roman legionary fortress, Isca Augusta, at Caerleon, Wales. The fortress at Caerleon was occupied by Legio II Augusta, (Augustus’ Second Legion), which, led by the future emperor Vespasian, invaded Britannia in 43 BC in a campaign against the Durotridges (Celts) and Dumnonii Tribes. The fortress was built about 75 AD and occupied until about 300 AD. The pendant probably represents Vesta, Goddess of domestic peace and family life, and would have been worn by a married free woman. 1 1/2” height in fine condition with the silver surface restored on a modern Sterling silver neck chain for modern wear.  Gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
