Prostitutes in the Roman Empire were young and often slaves. They wore these distinctive rings to be easily recognized in the streets. This one has a 2.2 mm deeply rounded face band. It is topped with a garnish inverted conical form mount comically emulating the stone of the quality rings worn by cultured women. Slight wear from use. Prostitution was practiced openly in ancient Rome and some of the best evidence is in the remains of Pompeii. Professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold surface restored.
