Gilt bronze, size 8 1/2 with central motif of addorsed lituus’ on radial sun rays. Worn by augurs, who were seers or priests of the Roman religion who interpreted the will of the gods through the flight of birds. The lituus was a scroll terminal wand with which the augur would define an area in the sky. Bird flights in the defined area was then the substance for interpretation of the will of the gods.
