SCANDINAVIAN HEART PENDANT NECKLACE, 11TH-12TH C. AD
The period of conversion to Christianity for Vikings. A remnant of the old pagan mythology in the form of an anatomically accurate heart, with raised border and nubs at the sixth points. A curious throwback to Viking pagan religion, elements of which were blended with Christianity. Such "transitional" elements were common and persist even today in the form of superstitions and belief in the occult. The form is unmistakably Viking, with the surround identical to earlier examples and the heart form found in Viking period jewelry as well. About 1" height plus the suspension loop, of heavier section than earlier examples. Professionally refurbished with the silver surface restored, on a Sterling silver neck chain for modern wear. Gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
