VIKING HEART PENDANT, 10th CENTURY AD.
True heart form with rounded edges forming scrolls at the top. Central finely defined trefoil motif. The variant foliage motifs were very popular with Vikings. Just over 1/2” width, cast in an open-faced mold as can be seen from the back. That method is characteristic of the period, 1000 years ago. For Vikings, the heart stood for bravery, fortitude, loyalty, integrity, all attributes of the warrior. It is said that Hrungnir, with whom Thor dueled (assisted by a sorceress), had a heart of stone. Professionally refurbished with the silver overlay restored on sterling silver neck chain. Gift boxed with a certificate of authenticity.
