VIKING HEART PENDANT NECKLACE C.1000 AD
A good example of a particularly intricate form. Broad heart in its naturalistic (uncusped) form. Slightly fluted at the bottom quarters. Broad edges curled to form the top of the trefoil in the field. Just under 5/8" width, made by the open-face mold technique. For Vikings, the heart stood for bravery, fortitude, loyalty, integrity, all attributes of the warrior. It is said that Hrungnir, with whom Thor dueled (assisted by a sorceress), had a heart of stone. A little wear from its period of use 1000 years ago! Surface worn from burial. Professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold surface restored, on a gold gilt neck chain for modern wear. Jewelry gift boxed with a certificate of authenticity.
