VIKING HEART PENDANT NECKLACE, C.900-1050 AD
Just over 1” width, made by the open face mold method and thick with incised decoration. Heart form with central inscribed trefoil of abstracted and abbreviated form with essentially a leaf and two tendrils. The form of the heart is stylized with the top cusp. Both forms are used profusely in Nordic literature. The heart stood for bravery, fortitude, loyalty, integrity, all attributes of the Viking warrior. It is abundantly referenced in Viking literature. Light surface texture from burial. Professionally refurbished with the pure silver surface restored, on a Sterling silver neck chain for modern wear. Gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
