VIKING LUNAR/ASTROLOGICAL PENDANT 9th-10th CENTURY
Gilt bronze. As expert navigators, the constellations signified mystery and power to Vikings. Lunar pendants were worn as pectorals as well as suspended from belts, other clothing and horse harness. This example is just under 1" wide and fashioned as crescent moon with the expanded tips representing Sol the sun and Mani, the moon.
