VIKING LUNAR PENDANT NECKLACE, 11th CENTURY AD
11th century, gilt bronze, about 5/8” width. Formed as a broad crescent representing the moon personified as Mani, pierced with five circles which undoubtedly were a reference to a cosmic event with spiritual significance. Worn, from the time of its use, perhaps ritually. Professionally refurbished with the 24 karat gold overlay restored and on a modern gilt Sterling silver neck chain for contemporary wear. Gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
