VIKING PROTECTIVE BROOCH NECKLACE, C.870-1066
Cambridgeshire, England. Circular bronze, just under 3/4" diameter. Cylindrical center with both faces rounded and meeting as a ridged edge. Surface textured from burial. Worn in numbers on the surface of the jerkin, these small metal brooches provided a measure of protection against sword cuts and, in fact, were a form of armor. See current Public Television programming for documentation of these in action. As protectors, they also held spiritual significance for the warrior. Surface textured from burial. Professionally refurbished with the silver overlay restored and suspended from a Sterling silver neck chain. Gift boxed with a certificate of authenticity.
