10th-11th century AD. Just under 1 1/2" height plus its original connecting link for a total of 2 1/8" length. Bronze shaped as a duck's foot and intricately detailed with raised claws and connecting web. A burial at Viden, Denmark contained the body of a woman of wealth and status buried with henbane seeds, which have hallucinogenic properties, and a wand as well as other objects. From these, archeologists concluded that she was a seeress or sorceress. The grave contained a necklace hung with three duck feet pendants very similar to this but much smaller. This is the largest example we have found through extensive research on the internet and in person. The connecting link is a figure 8, roped or spiral, a favorite Viking form. Its use here suggests that it may have spiritual significance when used elsewhere as in rings and pendants. Professionally refurbished with the silver surface restored, on a Sterling silver mounted polished leather neck cord for modern wear. Gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
